1 in a MIL: Millennium’s Influential Leaders – Andrea “Dre” Sounhein

Our 1 in a MIL spotlight recognizes Andrea “Dre” Sounhein of Millennium Wisconsin (South).

Millennium’s Influential Leaders (aka 1 in a MIL) help inspire people to be the best versions of themselves while helping drive the business forward. Their intentions and goals focus on both results and people; they create circles of influence and lead by inspiring people around them to be better. They aren’t necessarily managers or have direct reports. However, they contribute to the overall success of Millennium by the way they carry themselves, support the organization, and overall contribute to our culture. They are caring and curious. They are dependable and passionate. They are one in a Millennium.

Today we are excited to turn that spotlight on Andrea Sounhein. Andrea, better known as Dre, has been with Millennium for 6 years. In that time, she has grown into a role working directly with our vendors. Building relationships with our vendors is as important as the ones we have with our clients. The relationships that Dre has built, and continues to build, with our vendors is something to be applauded. She is focused on the growth and development of these partnerships and cares about the people she works with both professionally and personally. Her job includes tough conversations, setting realistic expectations, navigating through price increases, and material delays. That is a tough seat to sit in every single day. Dre balances these challenges and works on behalf of Millennium, our clients, and our vendors.

During these times, you will often find pulling and pushing between Sales & Purchasing. The Sales team is looking for more help, better pricing, better lead times, more favors from our suppliers. On the backside, Purchasing is looking for better communication, more realistic expectations, and an overall understanding of what our clients’ true needs are. Andrea cares about our vendors, our clients, and her Millennium team members, helping keep us aligned as we do our part to give our clients the best experience possible.

We sat down with Dre to get to know her a little better and to learn about her experiences working for Millennium and what she is passionate about outside of work.

How have you’ve personally grown from being a part of Millennium?

In the 6 years I have been here, I have held 3 different positions. Each position change has been an elevation. I went to school for fashion. Now, I hold a position leading a team of 4 in Purchasing. Millennium has given me the education and skills to feel confident in a position such as this.

Tell us what inspires you to wake up every day and bring the best version of yourself to Millennium?

…..Everything. The people, the environment, the time and effort the executive team puts into getting to know us and help us feel set up for success. I have so much support from my immediate supervisor, but also peers, and other managers. I can proudly say I haven’t had a case of the “Sunday scaries” since working here.

Is there someone who has helped you grow personally and professionally?

Nate Wendt. He and I think almost completely opposite. If there is a situation I am trying to work through and just can’t think about it from all angles, I go to Nate. He is always willing to listen and help me think “outside the box” to ensure the decision has the best impact for all.

What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?

Hosting. I live for it. I love having people over and running around making sure they are having the best time.

Tell us something surprising about yourself or something unique about you.

Singing was a big part of my life growing up. I sang in school, all the way through college, and competed in a number of events. My dad was in a band when I was growing up, too. They landed a record deal and toured smaller venues and festivals. I sang backup on a few songs on one of his albums.

What are some causes you care about?

No specific cause, but I care about making a positive impact in people’s lives. When I get old and gray(er), I want to know that I helped make a difference.
